Overall Purpose of the Job
The Exploration Manager Mongolia will oversee all of Centerra’s exploration activities in Mongolia. Responsibilities will include designing and executing regional and near-mine exploration programs,, leading and managing a large team of geoscientists and support staff and promoting new exploration and business-development opportunities within the region.
Detailed Job Responsibilities
1. Administration:
- Set overall priorities for the geology group and ensure that goals/targets are met in timely fashion.
- Design and manage annual budgets and work plans consistent with the schedules and requirements of Centerra.
- Concise, accurate and timely reporting of activities, results and budget status.
- Negotiate and manage drilling contracts.
- Interact with the BGC engineering group and provide logistical support for the mine geological department.
2. Supervision:
- Responsible for the direct supervision of the geological group, ensuring productivity and providing guidance and motivation as required.
- Train local geological staff with respect to exploration techniques, quality control, health and safety, and other general duties.
- Responsible for logistical details and cost controls in implementing the work plans.
- Monitor and ensure that analytical results, database and geological maps are accurate and current.
3. Exploration:
- Design and implement programs to explore our extensive license areas in Mongolia, with an emphasis on developing targets near the resource areas.
- Responsible for geological mapping, sampling and geophysical programs, data collection and interpretation. Requires an accurate and current geological interpretation of the existing database.
- Generate and maintain an accurate and comprehensive geological database in the MapInfo GIS software.
- Manage the current land holdings retaining, rejecting and acquiring licenses based on exploration results and concepts.
- Monitor competitor activities and identify other prospective opportunities in Mongolia.
- Provide technical support to the mine staff at Boroo Gold Company
4. Health and Safety
- Be a leader of Health, Safety and Environment within theExploration team. Ensure that the group is aware of, and comply with, the health and safety policies of Centerra.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- M.Sc. in Geology, have 10 – 15 years or more of relevant industry experience in gold exploration,
- understanding of gold deposit models, geological concepts and exploration techniques,
- ability to deal with foreign languages and cultures,
- database management skills, preferably with MapInfo,
- work history in a developing country, preferentially in Central Asia or CIS,
- superior communication and interpersonal skills,
- willingness to train and develop national staff,
- Safety oriented approach to work.
